Hello, I know this response is quite late, but I just joined the site and came upon your complaint. I certainly hope that the hospital has changed their policies and you were not blamed!
First of all, didn't the hospital have a policy/procedure for checking the code cart? If so, where are the daily check lists? Who checked it last? Was it checked? I find this very frustrating because I used to be in charge of a pre-op/pacu depts. and I ALWAYS made sure the staff had checked the cart and held them accountable if not. I also had to keep every check list for every month. When I left the hospital I had five years of filed code cart checks. Both adult and pedi. This is JC standard for checking the carts. Was the med. drawer empty? Usually that is the job of the pharmacy to stock, but nsg. to check that it is there and all up to date. I was trying to look some stuff up on computer and I am sure since it has been so long since your post, you probably have found this page yourself, but I am going to include a link that is specific to PA JC laws on code carts.
I hope you are doing well and have since tried to put that experience behind you and are able to focus on the good you do as a nurse.
I have worked many different areas in nursing, but never in the ER, especially the pediatric dept. I find I gravitate to adults and the OR/PACU ! lol.
Good luck to you and Happy Nurses Week
